ACT 2 Children's Wing

Stuart Little continues through October 22nd

Picture
This is the musical version of E. B. White’s classic tale of a little mouse (Laura Kate Wright) born to normal New York parents (Patton Locke and Allison Hasty) and real brother George (Jackson Pool).  Stuart becomes the underdog trying to survive in a “real people’s world.”

The idea for this story came to author E. B. White in an unusual way.  “Many years ago, I went to bed one night in a railway sleeping car,” explains White.  “During the night, I dreamed about a tiny boy who acted rather like a mouse.  That’s how the story of Stuart Little got started.”

Children and adults alike will love the adventures of Stuart and friends including Snowbell the family cat (Mary Turner Renz), adopted bird Margalo (Laura Smith), Zeke (Keenan Pasqua), Hank (Alex Gibson), Malty (Caroline Webb), Babette (Caroline Coleman) Tige (Anna Grace Rogers), Angie (Sarah Kate Coleman), Pigeon (Shelby Harvey) and more.

Other cast members include Kobi Wright, Chloe Peters, Kaley Bryant, Jordan Long, Luke Giles, Meg Coleman, Audrey Webb, Karle Wright, Lilly Claire Golden, Kristina Thompson, Cassia Mugge, and Andrew Clayton.

“Stuart Little” is directed by Carol Burchfield, and sponsored by Dalton Ear, Nose, & Throat, and Dalton Surgical Group. For tickets, call Artistic Civic Theatre at 706-278-4796.

ACT awards Danny Dantzler Memorial Scholarship for 2010

Picture
Artistic Civic Theatre is proud to announce David Giammarella as the 2010 recipient of the Danny Dantzler Memorial Student Theatre Scholarship.  Mr. Giammarella is a recent graduate of Southeast Whitfield High School, and has appeared on the ACT stage in "Fussin' and Feudin'," "A Pirate's Life," "Phantom of the O'pry," "No Strings Attached," and most recently in "Seussical, Jr."  When asked why it's important to give back to the community, David said "a person should use his or her God given talents, whatever they might be, to better the lives of others; whether that act is performing on stage in a community theatre production or building houses with Habitat for Humanity.  Giving back enriches the lives of people."
Established in memory of beloved ACT volunteer, actor, and board member Danny Dantzler, this scholarship award will be presented each year to deserving high school graduating seniors who have dedicated and shared their talents, time and commitment to Artistic Civic Theatre and the ACT2 Children’s Theatre Wing.

In June of 1996, Artistic Civic Theatre presented its first children’s musical with the production of E.B. White’s classic Charlotte’s Web.  Over forty local actors between the ages of seven and thirteen participated in that production, and prompted ACT to continue with and grow its children’s theatre program.  Since then, literally hundreds of young student actors have graced the stage at the ACT Playhouse, and have entertained and enriched the lives of local theatre patrons.  “Our area is blessed to have a wealth of talented youth, and ACT has been fortunate to be a part of their artistic endeavors over the years,” recalls Rick Martin, who serves as president of the Board of Directors of ACT.  “We are pleased to be able to reward these kids and let them know what a positive impact they’ve made on our community by participating in theatre arts.”

ACT was able to begin the scholarship fund with a generous donation this fall from Roman Open Charities.  For years, the Roman Open Golf Tournament has generated funds to help organizations in Whitfield and Murray Counties, and this year provided the contribution to begin the student scholarship named for Mr. Dantzler.  “Danny was an inspiration to our local youth for so many years and in so many ways,” said Martin.  “The ACT Board of Directors is honored to be able to give back to our students with a scholarship in memory of such a great man.”
