ACT announces
cast for “The Hallelujah Girls” Forget
your troubles and laugh out loud when the feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia, shake up their lives on the Playhouse Mainstage
and Artistic Civic Theatre presents The Hallelujah Girls September 16-25. The action in this
rollicking Southern comedy takes place in SPA-DEE-DAH!, the abandoned church-turned day spa where this group of friends gathers
every Friday afternoon. After the loss of a dear friend, the women realize time is precious and if they're going
to change their lives and achieve their dreams they have to get on it now! But Sugar Lee Thompkins (Lea Hicks), their
high-spirited, determined leader, has her hands full keeping the women motivated. Carlene Travis (Mary Rose Threet)
has given up on romance, having buried three husbands. Nita Mooney (Freda Wright) is a nervous wreck from running interference
between her problematic son and his probation officer. Mavis Flowers’ (Jan Corbin) marriage is so stagnant she's
wondering how she can fake her own death to get out of it. And sweet, simple Crystal Hart (Carol Burchfield) entertains
them all, singing Christmas carols with her own, hilarious lyrics. The comic tension mounts when sexy, ex-boyfriend
Bobby Dwayne Dillahunt (Sean Coleman) shows up unexpectedly, a marriage proposal comes from Porter Padgett (Mark Orr), a postal
worker who still lives with his mother, and Sugar Lee's arch rival Bunny Sutherland (Sandi Puckett) vows she'll stop
at nothing to steal the spa away from her. By the time the women rally together to overcome these obstacles and launch their
new, improved lives, you've got a side-splitting, sweet, and smart comedy that will make you shout "Hallelujah!"
From the authors of the popular comedy “Dearly
Departed,” The Hallelujah Girls is directed by Tim Etheridge and sponsored by Tease Salon and James L. Todd,
DDS. Tickets are on sale to ACT members only beginning August 20th, and to the general public
on August 27th. For reservations and ticket information, call the ACT Playhouse at 706-278-4796.

ACT is proud to announce the upcoming 2010-2011 Season, our 19th year! There
are plenty of comedies and musicals with a "southern flavor" scheduled for this year, including the comedy
The Hallelujah Girls and Mitch Albom's Duck Hunter Shoots Angel. Back for the eighth time is the
Satterfield / Phinney musical adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and "the greatest story ever retold"
makes its ACT Playhouse debut with Cotton Patch Gospel (with music and lyrics by the legendary Harry Chapin.)
Musical theatre fans will also be thrilled with the summer production of Once Upon a Mattress.
ACT2, the Children's Wing of ACT, has two mainstage productions scheduled, including a spoof
of classic westerns with The Wild, Wild, Wildest West, and the musical fantasy There's a Monser in My
Closet.
This season marks the exciting debut of ACT's Studio Series, a collection
of shows produced in the more intimate setting of the new ACT Studio Theatre (next door to the Playhouse). This season
features the musical revue Five Course Love in February, the award-winning Driving Miss Daisy in April,
and the comedy A Bench in the Sun in May.
Special productions are also in the works, so check back with
us often and don't miss out!
